Our education is based on the Hungarian National Curriculum (NAT), the children who study here get to know the subjects and cultural traditions in full according to the Hungarian curriculum supplemented by the Cambridge International programme.
The sooner the better because children learn mostly on an activity basis and playing, while their brains absorb information quickly like a sponge. The brain can learn the logic or phonology of a language naturally in early years. Furthermore, the children will learn the language in a relaxed, native speaking environment, and this experience will help them develop a positive attitude towards language learning and ease the acquisition of additional languages as well later.
No. It has been proven that the general learning ability of children, who have a high level of proficiency in more languages in addition to their mother tongue, exceeds that of their monolingual peers. Language learning also promotes creativity, flexible thinking and contributes greatly to the development of problem-solving skills.
Students at different levels can be integrated into the same class. Teachers use different strategies, such as differentiating the tasks/activities, teaching through various learning styles, and providing individualized homework that will strengthen their English skills. We separate the children according to abilities as well as also learning styles and personalities.
It’s a big help if your child already has English skills. Additionally it means that your child has confidence that “I can speak English” and children that are good at something, normally like practising what they are good at. That said, our programme is set up for non speakers as well and we plan to have children that are total non speakers, have completed a few years in the Hungarian state system and those that are bilingual.
We guarantee that the children will be at least at B2 level in English by the end of their primary school years.
Research indicates that having a strong foundation in your mother tongue leads to a much better understanding of the curriculum as well as a more positive attitude towards school and other languages. It is vital that children maintain their first language when they begin schooling in a different language. Our children will be at the same or higher level in Hungarian subjects as in any other Hungarian state schools. This means they can move from the Brit-Magyar any time to another Hungarian school at the same level if parents so choose.
Yes, we do. They are welcome. It often ensures a consistent educational experience for both of them and might be simply more convenient for the family as well. Sometimes one twin needs the other and many times they have similar learning styles. The entire situation enables parents to be actively involved in their education at the same time.
Yes, the school has 1000m2 of play area on two levels that the children can use. It will be fenced and exclusive to our children. The play area is within the grounds and is directly accessible from the main building. One level is flat and good for playing ball games. The other level has play equipment for the children to enjoy.
Yes, we do. Some experts share information that points to swimming as having an even greater impact on academic achievement than some “other” sports.
In the first and second grades, children receive an individualized, detailed and forward-looking assessment in writing. Grading begins with the third year, with written assessment included as well.
Children will have between 40-50% of their classes in English language. This will vary by grade as the Hungarian State curriculum allows more opportunities to have lessons on English as children get older. However the core subjects taught in Hungarian such as maths, literature and grammar wil have a similar number of lessons as a normal Hungarian school. Our objective is that children must attain a very high level of competence in the Hungarian subjects so that they can switch to a Hungarian school at grade 9 or earlier if the parents choose.
No, teachers have complete freedom to choose the textbooks that works best for them and their class.
Each homeroom teacher will spend 2 years with her/his class in primary.
There will be maximum 24 children in each class. This is in line with most international schools in Europe.
We will notify the parents about the school’s official decision in 3-4 working days after the admission sessions.
Our community is very important for us and we believe that communication with parents is a key component in forming a strong, proactive school community. There will be different ways and occasions for parents to communicate with the school. There will be one regular parent meeting in each trimester but we will organize as many parent meetings as necessary. Parents are also welcome in the mornings in the multipurpose room to meet the teachers, ask their questions or share their ideas. The school director is always available to meet the parents. We plan to organize less formal parent meetings as well, so we can build a sense of community and develop friendships.
Yes, in lower grades we want to build and develop different learning skills and strategies for each student. The focus is less on what you know but rather how you learn. In lower grades the love of learning is more important than the actual curriculum. We want our students to be interested and enthusiastic about what they are learning and to allow their curiosity to flourish.
There are no oral tests in the traditional sense in the lower grades. However, we consider it important for the children to be able to express themselves properly orally, so from the second grade onwards, when presenting project work, we encourage them to give a short, few sentences presentations to their peers at their own level.
At Tarogato u we are lucky to have a music school for children as one of our neighbours. We are happy to accompany our students to the music school in the afternoons.
Over time we plan to develop and add more sporting activities. We are fortunate at our school location that there are a number of after school clubs and sports programmes in the building with whom we can co-operate. We value participation is sport as a way to develop the whole character of a child beyond academic work.
We are fortunate to be in a school building that is a centre for after school activies, as well as hosting other schools. This means that we can organise after school programmes and attract students from other schools in order to make the participatioin numbers sufficient to run a programme. We will take ideas from parents and find solutions for the most frequently requested programmes.
