When, how, and why did you choose the teaching profession?
As a young child, I often struggled in school and had a speech delay. Because of this, school was sometimes difficult for me, but I was lucky to have amazing teachers who still made learning fun. These teachers inspired me to enter the profession and do my best to be that same kind of inspiration for other kids who might be struggling. My mom is also a teacher, so I was always around the world of education, which helped inspire my passion for teaching.
Why did you choose the Brit-Magyar School?
I taught for five years in the U.S., but I’ve always been interested in teaching at an international school. During my interviews, I felt really good vibes and found everyone to be so welcoming and positive. The school seemed like a supportive, caring environment, and that immediately made me feel like it would be a great fit.
What does an ideal lesson look like for you?
An ideal lesson encourages all students to participate and includes some kind of hands-on activity. It also has some movement, giving kids a chance to get out of their seats. The lesson should be fun, engaging, and educational. During the lesson, everyone learns about the same topic but also has the chance to share what they’ve learned in a creative way of their own choosing.
What is the most important thing you’d like to pass on to your students?
I believe the most important things to pass on are skills that help students become successful, kind, and confident individuals — skills like being inclusive, compassionate, and a good friend. I also want to show them the good in the world and how to focus on the positive things around them.
How do you motivate students to learn?
I motivate students by giving positive words of encouragement and celebrating their successes, no matter how big or small. I think the best way to keep students motivated is by staying positive and finding every opportunity to lift them up and remind them that they can succeed.
What do you love most about teaching?
My favorite thing about teaching is always the students. I love building connections with them, seeing them grow throughout the year, and celebrating their progress — both big and small.
