Did you know that you can see Sándor Petőfi’s baptismal font in the city center? You don’t even have to travel far, as it’s located in the Lutheran Church on Deák Square. This church provided shelter to hundreds of people during the great flood of 1838 when the Danube flooded the streets of Pest. Our 7th and 8th-grade classes visited the church and the associated National Lutheran Museum as part of the National Memory Pedagogy Program. We learned many interesting facts about Martin Luther and the Reformation, as well as about Sándor Petőfi, Kálmán Mikszáth, and Sándor Weöres, who were all members of the Lutheran community.
The classes were accompanied by Ms. Sam and Ms. Szilvi for this interactive program.
